The Panther Pride Foundation recently presented Central Elementary School with a check for $5,000 to help with the school’s leadership initiative. Members of the Panther Pride Foundation visited the Central Elementary School’s morning meeting on Friday, March 4 to observe Celebration Day. During the meeting, classrooms were recognized for positive behaviors in different areas of the school.

After the morning meeting, students from the kindergarten, first grade and second grade were able to show their leadership by presenting their data notebooks to the members of the Panther Pride Foundation. The data notebooks are a tool that students use to set personal and educational goals, and plan the steps needed to achieve those goals. Teachers, parents and students use the data notebooks also as a record of whether the students are achieving their goals, meeting expectations, and give them an avenue to analyze why they may be having a problem, if one occurs. After the students presented their data notebooks, the foundation was able to meet in the CES computer lab. Mrs. Tenhouse and Mrs. Dickhut presented a funding proposal to the community leaders serving on the foundation. The request was for different projects that encourage student leadership and an environment that promotes student leadership at CES. This is when Panther Pride Foundation voted to present the check for $5,000.

Central Elementary School has been recognized as a “Leader in Me” school through Franklin Covey and the Adams County Academic Success Initiative. CES is pursuing “Lighthouse” status with two other Adams County Schools. At this time, there are only seven schools in the United States that have been recognized as a “Lighthouse” School by Franklin Covey. Franklin Covey is the publisher of “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” and has become an organization that offers training for leadership skills.

Mr. Stotts, staff and students would like to thank the Panther Pride Foundation for their support of Central Elementary School’s focus on leadership.
